Sweetbriar Vision: Foster confident, compassionate, lifelong learners that solve problems, think critically and contribute positively to our school and the community

Principal’s Message

What a year it has been! Congratulations to all our students, families, and staff on a successful 2025–2026 school year. You have all worked incredibly hard and should feel proud of everything you accomplished this year.
To our 5th graders moving on to middle school, you will always be part of the Stinger family! You have grown in so many ways during your time at Sweetbriar, whether you started with us in kindergarten or joined us along the way. We are excited to see you begin this new chapter filled with opportunities, growth, and new experiences. Once a Stinger, always a Stinger!
This month, we also focused on our Stinger values of perseverance, optimism, and motivation. Take a moment to ask your student what these words mean to them. These conversations can lead to meaningful reflections and connections at home. Our signal words for the month were vocabulary and summary.
Thank you for being such an important and positive part of our Sweetbriar community. We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and relaxing summer break. Keep reading, stay active, and enjoy your time together. We look forward to welcoming back both new and returning students on September 8, 2026!
With appreciation,
Erika Richardson Principal,

Summer Tips from the Reading Specialist-

Summer is a wonderful time to relax, explore, and keep growing as readers! Just 15–20 minutes of reading each day can help students maintain the strong skills they built this year and start next year feeling confident.
Reading doesn’t have to look like a workbook or assignment. Families can build literacy skills in simple, fun ways all summer long:
  • Read together at bedtime
  • Visit the library regularly
  • Listen to audiobooks in the car
  • Cook using recipes together
  • Play word games like Scrabble, Boggle, or I Spy
  • Write postcards, grocery lists, or summer journals
  • Read signs, menus, maps, and magazines while out and about
Most importantly, help your child find books they enjoy! Graphic novels, joke books, nonfiction, picture books, and chapter books all count as reading.
Wishing all of our students and families a fun, safe, and story-filled summer! 🌞📖
